Dr. Gamal Ali Eldweny

Dr. Gamal Ali Eldweny was born on November 15, 1956 (11 Rabi’ al-Thani 1376 AH), and was raised with both a serious dedication to seeking knowledge and a deep commitment to Islamic values and character. He was not content to simply be a skilled physician who served people’s bodies; he strove also to be a religious scholar who served their faith and worldly life alike — combining two disciplines rarely found together in one person: medicine and Islamic scholarship.

He passed away on September 5, 2021 (28 Muharram 1443 AH), at the age of 64, leaving behind a scholarly and da’wah legacy that continues to benefit students of knowledge, patients, and his family alike.

This website is a humble attempt to gather his biography, books, sermons, and lessons in one place — so that his memory remains present, so that others may continue to benefit from his knowledge and experience, and so that it may be an ongoing charity (sadaqah jariyah) on his behalf, God willing.

He was a rare example of someone who combined the medical profession with religious scholarship. He practiced medicine with a spirit of faith, believing that prevention and treatment are part of the Prophetic guidance, and that the healing of bodies is never complete without the purification of souls. To him, medicine was never separate from faith — it was an extension of it, and a means of da’wah and benefit to others.

At the same time, he was a scholar deeply versed in Islamic history, the science of hadith, Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh), and the sciences of the Qur’an — combining a physician’s precision, a scholar’s patience, and a preacher’s wisdom. He was known for his ability to simplify intricate religious matters and connect them to the medical and social realities he witnessed daily in his practice.

This rare union of medicine and Islamic scholarship set his career apart, giving his words and writings a distinct resonance among those who knew him, studied under him, or listened to his lessons.

He left behind a rich scholarly library that reflects the breadth of his knowledge and the diversity of his interests, spanning medical jurisprudence and the defense of the Sunnah and the Companions. Among his most notable books are “Fiqh of Women Between Medicine and the Sunnah”, “The Golden Encyclopedia of Sermons and Pulpit Hadiths”, “Abu Hurairah: The Slandered One”, and “The Cursed Nation”. Alongside his written works, he was a respected preacher and khatib, leaving behind an audio and video legacy of sermons and lessons. We pray that Allah makes this legacy a guiding light for students of knowledge after him, and that it benefits those who hear it just as it benefited those who attended in person. He combined the wisdom of scholars with the compassion of physicians — gentle with his patients, patient with his students, and humble with everyone he met. He was known for his humility, the excellence of his teaching, his elevated character, and his love for people, which was returned in kind. No one sat with him without leaving with a useful piece of knowledge, a kind word, or a sincere smile.

He was keen to convey knowledge in a simple, accessible way, free of unnecessary complexity — speaking to ordinary people in terms they understood, and to students of knowledge at a level fitting their study, combining scholarly depth with simplicity of delivery.

Dr. Gamal Ali Eldweny passed away on 28 Muharram 1443 AH, corresponding to September 5, 2021, at the age of 64, leaving behind a legacy that still lives among us:

O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him, grant him wellness and pardon, honor his arrival, and widen his entrance. Make his grave a garden among the gardens of Paradise, and not a pit among the pits of the Fire. O Allah, replace his home with a better home, and his family with a better family, and grant his children and loved ones patience and solace.

Dear brothers and loved ones, we ask you to pray for him — that his good deeds be accepted, that he be forgiven and shown mercy, and that Allah place him among those He has favored: the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous — and that He bless his descendants and keep them in His care.

May Allah have mercy on you, father, and reward you on our behalf and on behalf of all Muslims with the best of rewards, and settle you in the vastness of His Paradise among those He has favored. Indeed, to Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return.
